Chipoka is a city in Malawi , which is located on Lake Malawi . Here the Malawian railroad and ferry traffic across the lake are linked. Chipoka is one of the country's four major ports and an important transportation hub in Malawi. The city was connected to Malawi's rail network in 1935. According to the census, the city had 6,395 inhabitants in 2018 . It is located at an altitude of 471 meters above sea level.
The nearby Chipoka mouthbrooder ( Melanochromis chipokae ) is named after the town.
