The Chiriquí ( Spanish Río Chiriquí ) is a river in Panama . It is located in the province of Chiriquí , has a length of 130 km and a catchment area of 1,905 km². The Chiriquí flows into the Gulf of Chiriquí (Spanish Golfo de Chiriquí ).
It is also known as Chiriquí Nuevo , in contrast to the Chiriquí Viejo River , which is further west near the border with Costa Rica , but is also in the Chiriquí Province .
The Chiriquí is dammed at its upper reaches by the dam of the Fortuna power plant to a reservoir, which is located in a protected area ( Spanish Reserva Forestal (De) Fortuna ).
