The Chiriquí Viejo ( Spanish: Río Chiriquí Viejo ) is a river in western Panama near the border with Costa Rica . It is located in the province of Chiriquí , has a length of 161 km and a catchment area of 1,376 km². The Chiriquí flows into the Gulf of Chiriquí (Spanish Golfo de Chiriquí ). About 15 km west of its mouth is the town of Puerto Armuelles .

In the province of Chiriquí there is also the river Chiriquí , which is also called Chiriquí Nuevo to distinguish it from the Chiriquí Viejo .

The Chiriquí Viejo is dammed into reservoirs in its upper reaches by the Bajo de Mina and Baitun power stations .
