List of Turkish ambassadors in Portugal
The ambassador heads the Turkish embassy in Lisbon . In 1931, Yahya Kemal Beyatlı , based in Madrid, was accredited by the government of António de Oliveira Salazar. Until 1941, the ambassadors based in Madrid were also accredited in Lisbon.
In 1934 a consular agreement was signed and Luís de Albuquerque e Bourbon de Sousa Lara, 2nd marquis of Lara (born April 17, 1897 in Coração de Jesus (Lisbon) , † 1992 in São Mamede (Lisbon) ) acted as honorary consul in Lisbon.
From 1949 to 1951 the Turkish legation in Lisbon was closed for cameralistic reasons. In 1957 the legation was upgraded to an embassy.
On February 15, 1963, a plot of land in the Restelo district was bought by the municipality of Lisbon for 77,763.02 US dollars and registered as an extra-territorial area on February 4, 1964. In a competition, a design by Muhlis Türkmen for the construction of the office with residence was determined. The company Rene Touzet was commissioned with the construction on October 24, 1967, the building was occupied on March 25, 1972, accepted on March 30, 1973 and completed in 1974.
