The embassy building was built in 1893 by Karlo Langer based on a design attributed to Hans Nimecek. It was renovated in 1992 for the Zavod za zaštitu kulturno-historijskog i prirodnog naslijeđa Kantona Sarajevo and was badly damaged during the Bosnian War 1992-1995.
