The Chlopsidae ( Gr .: "Chloa", - "as" = green, "ops" = similar; Syn .: Xenocongridae) are a fish family from the order of the eel-like (Anguilliformes). The small, only eleven to 42 centimeters long animals live in the tropical and subtropical Atlantic , Pacific and Indian Oceans .

They have no scales, and the species of the genera Chlopsis and Robinsia also lack pectoral fins . The gill openings are reduced to small, round, lateral openings. The lateral line organ consists only of a few pores on the head. The rear nostrils are shifted downwards and lie in the lips (not in Kaupichthys nuchalis ). The fish have 100 to 150 vertebrae.
