Jo Seong-hwan (born October 16, 1970 ) is a former South Korean soccer player who last played for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors . He is currently under contract with Incheon United as a coach. He led Jeju United to their first AFC Champions League qualification in several years in 2016 .

Career as a player

Football career in South Korea

Seong-hwan was signed by Yukong Elephants, now Jeju United, in 1993. Yukong Elephants also moved Bucheon during his time there and called himself Bucheon SK during that time. He played football for the club for eight years. In total, he came to 138 missions, where he scored two goals. At the end of 2001 he announced the end of his career. In 2003 he was active again for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors for one season . This last season he came to 31 missions.

Career as a coach

In 2002 he was introduced as the new assistant coach at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. In the following season he played again as a player for the franchise . He then moved to Masan Technical High School and was an assistant coach there for an unknown period. In 2009 he returned to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors as an assistant coach. In 2011 his team became champions of the K League. He stayed with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors until 2012. In early 2013 Jeju United announced that they had signed him as an assistant coach. He was an assistant coach there until the 2014 season . In 2015 he took over the position of coach. With him, the franchise could qualify for the championship round. The season ended with 6th place in the franchise. In the following season, the franchise was able to qualify for the championship round again. This time he was able to achieve 3rd place with the franchise. It's the franchise's best ranking in a long time. For the first time in a long time Jeju was able to qualify for the AFC Champions League . At the end of the season he was again assistant coach and Kim In-su took his post as coach . The club announced on December 22 of the same year that they would hire him as a coach and terminate Kim In-su's contract. He will be the new head coach of Jeju United from the 2017 season.
