Chomarlu ( Persian خمارلو Chomarlu , DMG Ḫomārlū ) is a city in northwestern Iran . It is located in the Ostan (province) of East Azerbaijan in the immediate vicinity of the Aras River. The city, the capital of Shahrestan (administrative district) Choda Afarin, has 1,222 people, according to the 2006 census.
In the vicinity of the city are the famous medieval bridges of Choda Afarin over the Aras and the Choda Afarin dam , the construction of which was one of the reasons that Chomarlu was elevated to the status of city by the central government in 1999.
