The Chopard SA is a Swiss watch and jewelery manufacturer based in Geneva . The company was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in Sonvilier in the Swiss Jura .
history
After an eventful history, the traditional company has been owned by the German Scheufele family since 1963. At that time, Karl Scheufele, a jeweler and watch manufacturer from Pforzheim , acquired the company called Le Petit-fils de L.-U. Chopard et Cie, Fabrique des Montres LUC by 80-year-old Paul André Chopard. Today the family company with branches in Europe, Asia and North America is one of the most successful jewelry and watch manufacturers in the world. Chopard stands for high-quality jewelry collections and exceptional watches, with great emphasis on manual work and the greatest possible vertical range of manufacture .
The group of companies, which is managed under the umbrella of Chopard Holding SA, employs around 1700 people and in 2007 generated sales of 800 million Swiss francs.

The initials LUC stand for Louis-Ulysse Chopard . Since 1996 Chopard has had its own watch manufacture in Fleurier , where LUC watches are developed and manufactured. According to their own statements, the Scheufele family was considering setting up their own manufacturing facility for classic products as early as the early 1990s in order to gain real legitimacy in the “Haute Horlogerie” . Since 2007 the manufactory employs 108 people in 15 different professions. The 3000 LUC movements produced annually, which are developed and manufactured in the manufactory, all carry the COSC certificate (chronometer certificate ). COSC stands for Contrôle officiel suisse des chronomètres , an independent, non-profit association that is neither controlled nor financially supported by the Swiss state.
