Christopher "Chris" Frank Capuano (* 19th August 1978 in West Springfield , Massachusetts ) is an American baseball player in Major League Baseball . Left-hander Capuano plays the starting pitcher position and has been under contract with the New York Yankees since the end of July 2014 .

Career

Chris Capuano was selected in the 1999 MLB Draft as player number 238 in the eighth round of the Arizona Diamondbacks and from then on played for the franchise in the minor leagues . At the 2001 World Baseball Championship in Taipei, he was part of the US national team, which won the silver medal at this tournament. In May 2002 Capuano had to undergo the lengthy Tommy John Surgery , which is relatively often necessary for pitchers , after a ligament of his cubit was torn.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Almost exactly a year after the operation, in May 2003, he made his MLB debut, where he played a total of nine games for Arizona, before joining the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2004 season.

Milwaukee Brewers

After the trade in December 2003, Capuano got relatively few bets for a starting pitcher in Milwaukee. After only 17 starts in 2004, he made his breakthrough in the 2005 season. With 18 wins he was able to achieve a value that no pitcher of the Brewers has had since 1987. Also in 2006 Capuano showed strong performances and was consequently invited to the MLB All-Star Game .

After Capuano was able to win five games in a row in 2007, a negative series followed, in which the Brewers lost 22 games in a row, in which Capuano pitched. These poor performances and the second Tommy John Surgery of his career meant that Capuano was not given a place in the Brewers Major League team for a long time.

Capuano had to wait until June 2010 until he was allowed to start again in the MLB after the renewed time in the minor leagues. On July 3, 2010, he was able to end his time with the Brewers with a win against the Florida Marlins after losing 26 games in a row.

New York Mets

2011 season Capuano signed a contract for one season with the New York Mets, giving it a fixed salary of 1.5 million US dollars pledge.
