Chris Latham (born September 8, 1975 in Narrabri ) is a former Australian rugby union player who played as a goalkeeper for the Queensland Reds , for the Worcester Warriors and the Australian national team. He is the second most attempted Australian player after David Campese .
Career
Latham began his career with the New South Wales Waratahs , after one season he moved to Queensland, where he was elected player of the Super 12 season three times (2000, 2003, 2004). He made his debut for the national team in 1998 when the "Wallabies" met France . He participated in the World Championships in 1999 , 2003 and 2007 .
He has been one of the best final players in the world since 2004, when he also prevailed on the national team against existing greats such as Mat Rogers and Matt Burke . In 2006 he was nominated for Player of the Year by the world association IRB . The election was ultimately won by New Zealand captain Richie McCaw .
Latham's last season with the Reds was marked by numerous injuries. He returned on matchday 13 against the Crusaders , injured himself again after a few minutes, so that he was granted a 100th game in super rugby. He moved to Worcester at the start of the 2008/09 Premiership season to end his career there. The first season in England ended in March after a shoulder injury. The contract expired after the 2009/10 season. Then Latham moved to Kyuden Voltex in the Japanese Top League for two years . In 2019 he was hired as a coach for the major league rugby club Utah Warriors for the 2020 season.
