Chris Weidman (born June 17, 1984 in Baldwin , New York ) is an American MMA athlete and former UFC middleweight champion .

On July 6, 2013 (UFC 162) he won the middleweight title of the UFC in the fight against Anderson Silva by knockout in the 2nd round. In the rematch on December 28, 2013 (UFC 168), he confirmed his title by winning again in the 2nd round. At UFC 175 on July 5, 2014 he fought against Lyoto Machida , he won this fight over the entire distance of five rounds on points (unanimous decision). At UFC 187 on May 23, 2015, Weidman was again able to defend his title against a strong opponent, in this case Vitor Belfort, whom he defeated in the first round by TKO. On December 12, 2015, however, he lost his title to Luke Rockhold due to a TKO defeat . After a break of almost a year, Weidman returned to UFC 205 on, but lost to Yoel Romero to Flying Knee. This was followed by a wide defeat against Gegard Mousasi by knee kicks. On July 22, 2017, Weidman was able to end his series of defeats by defeating Kelvin Gastelum .
