Old Catholic Church of Christ Resurrection Furtwangen with rectory

history

In front of the new building on the Ilben site, the congregation held its services at three different locations .

By decree of the Baden Ministry of the Interior of February 25, 1875, the Catholic parish of the Old Catholics Furtwangen was granted the joint use of the Roman Catholic town church. However, since simultaneous use by the Archbishop of Freiburg was forbidden to the Roman Catholics, they built a temporary emergency church in Gewerbehallenstrasse (completed in 1875).

In 1911, the old Catholic parish moved into that provisional arrangement, since it no longer had the required number of Catholics in Furtwangen that would have justified further use of the old parish church.

In 1937, she renounced her right to use the dilapidated emergency church in favor of a settlement of 14,000 Reichsmarks . With this sum the building of their own church should be financed. However, the application for a building permit was delayed by the Nazi -minded officials, who considered the construction of a new church to be out of date, so that the congregation was a guest in the Protestant church for 21 years . Since the amount of compensation had become de facto worthless as a result of the currency reform , it was financed mainly from funds from the Bonn diocese .

Building history

The Furtwang architect Erich Fritz was responsible for planning and executing the church building. The laying of the foundation stone and the topping-out ceremony took place on September 6, 1958. Consecrated the church on June 14, 1959.

Interior design

The church window behind the simple, free-standing altar shows a representation of the risen Christ . The window was designed by the daughter of the pastor at the time, Wilhelm Eggert. Ursula Eggert also made the altar cross, the tabernacle and the candlesticks .

Bells

The bell consecration took place two weeks before the consecration, on May 31, 1959 . The three bells consecrated to the Trinity are coordinated with the chimes of the other churches in Furtwangen.
