Christian Büschges

Christian Büschges (born November 25, 1965 in Dülken ) is a German historian.

After finishing school in Viersen, Büschges studied Iberian and Latin American History, German Philology and Medieval and Modern History at the University of Cologne . It completed its studies in 1992 with a Magister Artium .

Three years later he received his doctorate at the same university with the thesis Family, Honor and Power: Concept and Social Reality of the Nobility in the City of Quito (Ecuador) during the late colonial period, 1765-1822 , a socio-historical study published in 1996 by Franz Steiner Verlag was published as volume 66 of the articles on colonial and overseas history . In 2002 he completed his habilitation in modern history with special focus on Iberian and Latin American history, also at Cologne University. In the same year he was appointed professor of general history with special emphasis on Iberian and Latin American history at Bielefeld University. Since 2007 he has also been Professor Invitado at the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar in Quito .

In 2013 he was appointed Associate Professor for Iberian and Latin American History at the University of Bern .

In addition to his research at universities, he went on research trips to Spain , Mexico , Ecuador and Colombia .
