Christian Christiansen (physicist)

Christian Christiansen

Christian Christiansen (born October 9, 1843 in Loenborg , Denmark ; † November 28, 1917 ) was a Danish physicist .

After graduating, Christiansen became a teacher at the local polytechnic school. In 1886 the University of Copenhagen appointed him to a chair in physics.

Christiansen worked mainly in the fields of optical dispersion and thermal radiation and developed the Christiansen filter named after him ( Christiansen effect ). He found numerous absorption spectra with anomalous dispersion , including aniline red.
