Christian Friesl

Christian Friesl (born September 11, 1960 in Vorau , Styria ) is an Austrian theologian and author .

Life

Christian Friesl grew up in Pinkafeld in Burgenland . He studied theology at the University of Vienna . In 2001 he completed his habilitation in pastoral theology , and in 2007 he completed an MBA at the Vienna University of Economics and Business .

From 1982 to 1988 he was a religion teacher at various schools in Vienna. From 1988 he started working at the Institute for Pastoral Theology at the University of Vienna, from 1992 he worked as a university assistant and from 2001 as an associate professor.

In 1988 he became chairman of the Austrian Institute for Youth Research and held this position until 1997. From 1997 to 2003 he was President of the Catholic Action Austria . In this function, Christian Friesl became known, among other things, due to controversies, some of which were publicly carried out, with the then local bishop of Sankt Pölten , Kurt Krenn .

From 2001 Friesl was Head of Social Policy at the Federation of Industrialists , and since 2013 he has been Head of Education and Society.

At the Institute for Practical Theology at the University of Vienna, Friesl is primarily concerned with value research and heads the research association for interdisciplinary value research.
