Christian Gottlieb Fechhelm (* 1732 in Dresden ; † 1816 there ) was a German portrait and history painter .

Life and works

His first teacher was his older brother Carl Friedrich Fechhelm . He then studied at the Dresden Art Academy, where Ismael Mengs , Adam Manyoki and Charles Hutin taught him portrait painting and then miniature drawing. In the early 1770s, Empress Maria Theresa commissioned him to create portraits of all the generals at the Vienna Military School. His son Carl Christian (1770–1826) also became a painter.
