Charles François Hutin (born July 4, 1715 in Paris , † July 29, 1776 in Dresden ) (also: Karl ) was a painter, sculptor and the first director of the Dresden Art Academy .

Life

Charles François Hutin was trained by François Lemoyne (1688-1736) and Sébastien Slodtz (1655-1726). At the age of 21 he won the First Prize of the Paris Academy for Painting in 1736 and received a royal scholarship to study in Rome. Here he initially studied sculpture under Sébastien Slodtz. In 1742 he returned to Paris, in 1744 he became a licensed sculptor and in 1746 he made his masterpiece: a Charon , with which he was admitted to the Royal Academy. In 1748 he was called to Dresden, where his brother Pierre (Peter) († 1763) accompanied him. He worked here under Louis de Silvestre . With the establishment of the art academy in 1762 he became its director. His successors were Johann Eleazar Zeissig and Giovanni Battista Casanova .
