Louis de Silvestre
Louis de Silvestre (born June 23, 1675 in Sceaux , † April 11, 1760 in Paris ) was a French painter .
Life
Louis was the youngest son of the painter Israël Silvestre . He first received lessons from his father. Silvestre later studied at the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture with Charles Lebrun and Bon Boullogne .
In 1712 de Silvestre became deputy rector of the Académie Royale in Paris. In 1716 he traveled to Dresden at the invitation of the Elector and King Augustus the Strong , where he worked as a court painter for more than thirty years . He was appointed chief court painter and ennobled. In addition to an abundance of portraits, he created ceiling paintings in the Brühlschen Palais , the Japanese Palais and the Mathematical-Physical Salon of the Zwinger . In 1727 he became director of the painting academy in Dresden. On his return to Paris, de Silvestre was rector of the Académie Royale in 1752.
