Christian praise love
Christian Gottlob Liebe (born June 5, 1696 in Zschopau , † September 16, 1753 in Halle ) was a German engraver .
Life
Christian Gottlob Liebe was a university engraver in Halle from 1722. He had a son named Gottlob August , who lived from 1746 to 1819 and from 1760 was also a university engraver in Halle. Both the father and the son made numerous portraits.
Among the engravings by Christian Gottlob Liebes was a portrait of Luther from 1736, which was created after a painting by Johann Anton Rüdiger . The inscription that refers to the genesis of the picture is interesting. It does not show Luther himself, but Luther in effigie von Halle, who, according to the inscription, was made from wax casts of Luther's corpse.
