Christian Hoeft (born May 10, 1847 in Riesenberg , Silesia , † February 8, 1935 in Elberfeld , now Wuppertal ) was President of the Royal Railway Directorate Elberfeld .

Life

From October 15, 1894, Hoeft worked for the Royal Railway Directorate in Elberfeld. A year later he was appointed director. In 1902 he was transferred to Königsberg (Prussia) . From there he returned to Elberfeld in 1903 as President of the Railway Directorate. On September 30, 1919, he retired. A large number of railway lines were built and expanded during his time.

On July 29, 1910, Hoeft was made an honorary citizen of the city of Elberfeld.

On December 7, 1919, a memorial for Christian Hoeft was inaugurated in front of the Reich Railway Directorate on Döppersberg . It had a square base made of shell limestone , which carried a bust of Hoeft. The inscription read: "To your honorary citizen Hoeft Die Stadt Elberfeld"

Effect after death

On March 11, 1935, his daughter Elisabeth Hoeft gave the city of Wuppertal a bronze plaque with her father's relief. The artist was probably Karl Janssen (1855–1927). It was installed in the councilors' meeting room and later in the meeting room of the Elberfeld town hall . It disappeared during the Second World War.

A grave of honor is located in the old reformed cemetery in Hochstrasse .

The President Hoeft Tunnel is popularly named after Hoeft.
