Christian Hopmann

Christian Hopmann (born September 3, 1968 in Essen ) is a German mechanical engineer and professor and holder of the chair for plastics processing at RWTH Aachen University and head of the Institute for Plastics Processing (IKV).

Life

Hopmann studied mechanical engineering with a specialization in plastics technology at RWTH Aachen University from 1989 to 1996. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Plastics Processing. In 2000 he did his doctorate under Walter Michaeli with a thesis on ceramic injection molding. Following his assistantship, he became department head for molded part design / materials technology at the Institute for Plastics Processing (IKV) in Industry and Craft at RWTH Aachen University in the same year . From 2001 to 2004 he was chief engineer and deputy head of the institute. In 2005 he moved into industry and was head of quality management and in the following year head of production at the Rheinische plastic Werke AG inPetersaurach , today's RKW SE . He then moved to the Helsingborg site, where he took on the position of Managing Director of the Swedish subsidiary RKW Sweden AB .

After working at RKW, he was appointed head of the IKV in 2011. In April 2011 he became professor for plastics processing at RWTH Aachen University. His research focus is on integrative plastics technology. When it was founded in the spring of 2015 until June 7, 2016, he was a member of the executive board of the German Industry Research Foundation Konrad Zuse eV

Hopmann is married and has four children.

Awards

In 2014 he received the innovation award of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, endowed with 100,000 euros, for “practice-oriented research in the field of lightweight construction”.
