Christian Joachim

Christian Joachim (around 1680 in Schafstädt ; † after 1745 in Halle (Saale) ) was a student of Arp Schnitger and organ builder in Halle.

life and work

Joachim was born in Schafstädt (near Halle) and learned organ building from Andreas Theissner in 1697, where he was a journeyman until 1705. He then worked for three years with Arp Schnitger (1706–1708). He acquired citizenship in Halle in 1709 and was responsible for the city's organ inventory until 1748. In addition to organs, Joachim also built clavichords .

His pupil was Heinrich Andreas Contius , who took over Joachim's office in Halle from 1748 and from 1762 became an important organ builder in the Baltic States .
