Christian Ludwig Taddel

Christian Ludwig Taddel (born April 11, 1706 in Rostock ; † June 12, 1775 there ) was a German administrative lawyer and hymn poet from the Mecklenburg family of scholars Taddel.

Live and act

Taddel was the son of the Mecklenburg government councilor Jakob Taddel and his wife Katharina, b. Multiply . He studied law at the University of Rostock , where he on 27 September 1729 under the chairmanship of James Carmon Dr. who received a doctorate in law. In the same and in the following year he appeared as the author of birthday cantatas for Duke Carl Leopold . As an administrative lawyer, he rose to the position of director of the law firm and the consistory in Rostock. In his capacity as director of the consistory in 1764 he also had to examine the proposal for the new hymn book for Mecklenburg. He had already proven his professional qualification in this regard in 1744 by publishing five self-created hymns, which appeared in the appendix to the hymnal.

His Easter song "Höllenzwinger, take the palms" was the most widespread; it was not only included in the Mecklenburg hymnbooks, but also in the Württemberger hymnbook of 1842 and in the Hamburg hymnbook of 1842 with the changed beginning “Overcome, take the palms” .

His son Johann Gottlieb Taddel (born April 30, 1740 in Güstrow, † September 15, 1797 in Rostock) also became a lawyer, in 1779 a syndic of the city of Rostock and around 1788 procurator and advocate at the Mecklenburg judicial office in Rostock and procurator at the consistory in Rostock.
