Christian Marco Calgèer (* 1819 in Kempten (Allgäu) , † 1898 in Munich ) was a German merchant and benefactor of the city of Kempten.

Life

Calgèer came from an old Kempten merchant family. His ancestors were city court assessors and merchants.

He traded in long goods and church parameters .

The merchant married Maria Anna Spieler from Isny on July 18, 1853 in Kempten . In 1874 he set up a charity in memory of his daughter Adeline, who had died a year earlier. In 1886 Christian Calgèer founded the Calgèersche Charity Foundation. It served to care for the poor, sick and orphans.

The benefactor of the city of Kempten died in Munich in 1898. He was buried in the Evangelical Cemetery in Kempten . After his death, the city of Kempten received the money in the form of a fund. In return, the city takes care of the Calgèer tomb.

Afterlife

After his death, numerous projects in Kempten were financed by the Calgèersche Charity Foundation. Among other things, the award-winning St. Mang's fountain and the music pavilion in the city ​​park were created from their funds .

The Calgeerpark , a small park in Kempten, is also named after him. It was funded by funds from the Calgeer Foundation. A street (Calgeerstraße) in Kempten is named after Calgèer. Currently the spelling with grave accents ( Calgèer ) is dispensed with and mostly simplified with Calgeer .
