Christian Reichardt (born November 16, 1934 in Ebersbach-Neugersdorf / Saxony ) is a German chemist and retired professor of organic chemistry at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Life

After attending elementary school in Neugersdorf (1941–1949) and secondary school in Zittau / Saxony (1949–1953), from 1953 to 1954 he worked as a teaching assistant for chemistry at the technical college for energy (specializing in electricity generation and distribution) in Zittau / Saxony. He then studied at the Technical University of Chemistry in Leuna-Merseburg . After fleeing from the GDR to the FRG in 1955, he continued his chemistry studies at the Philipps University of Marburg , where he received his doctorate in 1962 (mentor: Karl Dimroth). After habilitation in organic chemistry in 1967, he was first assistant professor and private lecturer and from 1971 to 1999 professor for organic chemistry (H3 / C3) at the Chemical Institute of the Philipps University of Marburg. 1969–1971 he held a teaching position for special organic chemistry at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen, followed by visiting professorships at the universities of Barcelona (1988), Bratislava (1998) and Oita / Japan (2000).

Reichardt is the author and co-author of more than 200 publications and patents as well as two books on solvent effects .

His fields of work include synthetic organic chemistry (especially the chemistry of substituted malonaldehyde; polymethine dyes and pyridinium N -phenolate betaine dyes → Reichardt dye) and physical-organic chemistry (solvatochromism of organic dyes, the influence of solvents on chemical reactions and empirical parameters of the Solvent polarity → E T (30) and E T N values).

Reichardt has been retired since October 1999 and is now primarily concerned with the historical development of the subject chemistry at the University of Marburg from 1609 to the present, published in photo documentation and brochures.
