Shōichi Kondō
Shōichi Kondō ( Japanese 近藤 昭 一 , Kondō Shōichi ; born May 26, 1958 in Nagoya , Aichi Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician ( New Party Sakigake (English NPH, NPS, etc.) → Democratic Party (English DPJ) → Democratic Progressive Party ( Eng. DP) → Constitutional Democratic Party (Eng. CDP) and member of the Shūgiin for the 3rd constituency of Aichi . In the DPJ he led first together with Hideo Hiraoka later alone a faction, the Kondō [Hiraoka-] group, officially Liberal no Kai ("Assembly of Liberals").
Kondō, the son of a member of the Nagoya City Council, studied at the law faculty of the Jōchi Daigaku ( Sophia University ), from 1981 temporarily at the Běijīng yǔyánxuéyuàn ("Peking Language Institute"), today's University of Beijing Language and Culture . After graduating in 1984 he worked for the Chūnichi Shimbun- sha, where he worked in the cultural department. In 1993 he left the publishing house to turn to politics.
In 1994 Kondo joined the New Sakigake Party, where he worked as chairman of the "Preliminary Advisory Council" ( jumbikai ) to help build the Aichi Prefectural Association. In 1996 he participated like many members of the party in the establishment of the DPJ. In the Shūgiin election in 1996 he ran for the DPJ in the new constituency Aichi 3. Kondō reached only third place, but was elected by a relatively good constituency result ("loss rate" 73.08%) through the newly introduced proportional representation in the Tōkai block . From 2000 he was able to win the constituency four times in a row.
In the Democratic Party, Kondō was in 2003 under Naoto Kan 's “next cabinet”, the shadow cabinet of the Democrats, with responsibility for the environment. In 2006 he took over the chairmanship of the Aichi Prefecture Association. After the democratic election victory in 2009 , he initially took over the chairmanship of the Shūgiin Interior Committee ("Committee for General Affairs"). From September 2010 to 2011 he was State Secretary (“ Vice Minister ”) in the Ministry of the Environment .
In the Shūgiin election 2012 , Kondō lost his constituency by almost 4,000 votes to Yoshitaka Ikeda ( LDP ), but won one of the four DPJ proportional representation mandates in Tōkai. From 2012 to 2013 he was chairman of the Shūgiin Disciplinary Committee. In the 2014 election , the election results of the Democrats in their former stronghold of Aichi recovered somewhat - they won six of the 15 seats again - and Kondo won the constituency back.
In view of the Shūgiin election in 2017 , Kondō moved to the recently founded Constitutional Democratic Party and has since been one of two vice chairmen ( fuku-daihyō ) of the party.
