Christian Wunderlich (doctor)

Christian Wunderlich (born June 17, 1806 in Aurich , † July 20, 1871 in Winnenden ) was a German physician and senior medical officer.

Christian Wunderlich studied medicine with Ferdinand Gottlieb von Gmelin in Tübingen and received his doctorate in 1828. From 1836 he worked as a doctor, later a senior medical officer in Winnenden. He was involved in the board of an association for the construction of a hospital. In 1863, with the help of donations, he was able to set up a private hospital for the medical care of the poorer residents.

Wunderlich also worked as a medical doctor at the Winnenthal Sanatorium . In 1838, together with its director Albert Zeller , he published the standard psychiatric work by the Belgian Joseph Guislain, treatise on phrenopathies or the new system of mental disorders, in German.

In 1865 Christian Wunderlich was made an honorary citizen of Winnenden for his services.
