Christiane Vorster

Christiane Vorster (born November 18, 1954 in Hamburg ) is a German classical archaeologist . The focus is on Hellenistic sculpture .

Christiane Vorster studied Classical Archeology, Ancient History , Greek Studies and at times also Art History at the University of Cologne , the University of Bonn and the University of Thessaloniki . The doctorate took place with Nikolaus Himmelmann in Bonn in 1982 with a thesis on Greek child statues . In 1983 Vorster became an assistant at the Archaeological Institute of the University of Cologne, but took a break from 1984 to 1989 for family reasons. In 1989 she continued her academic career and became a research assistant at the research archive for ancient sculpture at the Archaeological Institute of the University of Cologne. Until 1994 she worked on the ideal sculptures of the Museo Gregoriano Profano ex Lateranense in Rome as part of the project and worked on the Arachne image database for ancient sculpture. Vorster also wrote a study on the art market and art ownership in ancient Rome . In 1998 she became a lecturer at the University of Bonn and worked from 1999 to 2006 on the History of Ancient Sculpture Project under the direction of Peter C. Bol at the Liebieghaus in Frankfurt . Vorster has been teaching as an honorary professor in Bonn since 2005. In addition, since 2006 she has been a freelancer at the sculpture collection of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden , where she is co-editor and author of the inventory catalog.
