Christiane Zweier

Christiane Zweier (* 1978 ) is a German human geneticist .

Life

Zweier studied human medicine from 1997 to 2003 at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . From October 2004 she worked as an assistant doctor at the Human Genetic Institute of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and did her doctorate in 2004 on Mowat-Wilson syndrome .

In 2009 she was a visiting researcher at the Department of Human Genetics at Radboud University Nijmegen , Netherlands. In 2012 she was qualified as a specialist in human genetics.

In January 2018 she was appointed adjunct professor at the Chair of Human Genetics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

On September 1, 2020, Zweier will take on the role of director and chief physician of the University Clinic for Human Genetics at Inselspital in Bern. At the same time, she will become a full professor of human genetics at the University of Bern. She succeeds Sabina Gallati .

Research priorities

Zweier devoted himself primarily to further research into Pitt-Hopkins syndrome . Under her leadership, the connection with the TCF4 was proven and a more precise clinical characterization of the syndrome was carried out. In further work, she was able to demonstrate the involvement of other genes.
