Christmas (Michigan)
Christmas is a place in Alger County , Michigan, on the shores of Lake Superior . It is located about 7 kilometers from the County Seat Munising on Michigan Highway 28 (M-28) and has a population of about 400. Christmas got its name in 1938 from a Christmas jewelry factory on the street that no longer exists.
Onota , also known as Bay Furnace , was created in 1869 to melt iron on the site of today's Bay Furnace Park campsite in Christmas . Onota was destroyed by fire in 1877, only the blast furnace was partially preserved.
