Christo Jassenow ( Bulgarian Христо Ясенов , pseudonym of Christo Pawlow Tudscharow , Bulgarian Христо Павлов Туджаров ; born December 24, 1889 in Etropole , Bulgaria ; † April 1925 ) was a Bulgarian symbolist poet.

Career

In 1909 he met Anton Straschimirow , who was enthusiastic about Tudscharow's works. He also owes his pseudonym Christo Jassenow to him.

In 1919 he became a member of the Bulgarian Communist Party (BKP). After the September uprising in 1923 he became a member of the auxiliary commission for those affected by the uprising of the BKP and wrote their brochures. He was persecuted for his party activities. After the events in April 1925 (the beginning of the white terror in Bulgaria, which followed the bomb attack on the Sveta Nedelya cathedral ), Christo Jassenow disappeared "without a trace" - he was murdered.

Even today there is the Christo-Jassenow-Platz in Sofia , where the boulevards Arsenalski (formerly called Wlado Georgiev ), Tscherni Wrach and Sweti Naum (formerly called Trajtscho Kostow ) cross.

Works

His first collection of poems Knights Castle ( Bulgarian замък Рицарски , 1921) is marked by symbolism, but some of the written after the October Revolution poems ( By Granite fences , Bulgarian През гранитните огради , 1919; Sakana, Bulgarian Закана , 1919; Petrograd , Bulgarian Петроград , 1920) were close to the art conception of realism . Together with Krum Kjuljakow, Jassenow founded and edited the magazine Tscherwen Smjach ( Bulgarian Червен смях , Red Laughter), in which Christo Smirnenski published many of his poems. Jassenow wrote humorous verses and feature articles in which he sharply scourged the bourgeoisie , advocated the policy of the BKP and supported the October Revolution in Russia.
