Christo Smirnenski

Christo Smirnenski ( Bulgarian Христо Смирненски , English transcription Hristo Smirnenski ; born September 29, 1898 in Kilkis ( Greece ), † June 18, 1923 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian writer and poet.

Life

Christo Smirnenski had a happy childhood and was a playful child with a great sense of humor. However, at the age of 14, he and his family had to flee to Sofia during the First Balkan War in 1912, where he began to write. Among other things, he wrote songs, animal stories and jokes in rhyme form. He made his literary debut in 1915 in a satirical magazine . From 1918 he also wrote for the communist press in Bulgaria. Until his early death at the age of 25, he died of tuberculosis , the restless poet wrote several thousand poems and other works under up to 70 pseudonyms .

Smirnenski Point , a headland on Robert Island in Antarctica , has been named after him since 2008 .
