Christoph Heinrich Oak

The Christoph-Heinrich-Eiche is an old English oak in the Byttnahain southeast of Straupitz (Spreewald) .

The oak, listed as a natural monument , is one of the remains of an old Hudewald . Measurements in 2004 showed a trunk circumference of 6.20 meters. The name of the oak is likely to refer to Christoph-Heinrich von Houwald (1878–1941), who was the master of the neighboring Straupitz Castle . The name of the oak comes from an old sign on the tree. In the past, several of the nearby ancient oaks had names of members of the Houwald family . Another example of this is the Florentine oak .

Weidmannsrast , another very large oak, is right next to the Christoph Heinrich oak. A hiking trail leads past the two oaks, which are probably several centuries old.
