The Byttna (also Bythna or Byttnahain ) is an area with the remains of an old grove of pedunculate oaks on the northern edge of the Spreewald southeast of Straupitz .

In Byttna, which is part of the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve , there are still around 40 very old oaks or their remains. The oaks represent the rest of a Hudewald forest . A hiking trail leads through the area along particularly large oaks. The best-known oaks of the Byttna are the dead Florentine oak , Weidmannsrast , Christoph Heinrich oak , Kaiser Wilhelm oak and the Bismarck oak. In the past, many of the oaks were given a name tag, which indicated members of the Straupitz ruling family Houwald . Such a sign has been preserved on the Christoph-Heinrich-Eiche.

According to a legend, the Byttna is said to have been a pre-Christian Slavic sanctuary. In the Byttna area traces of settlement remnants were found that go back to the Bronze Age . Legends also speak of underground passages to Straupitz Castle and the Straupitz Church .
