The Christoph Columbus School is a school in the Sandow district of Cottbus .

history

It was built in 1967 as the 13th polytechnic secondary school and from 1969 to 1990 it was run as the Ernst Thälmann secondary school and from 1990 to 2004 as the 7th elementary school. It received its current name in June 2004. In its first few years it was attended by over 1000 students. The school has a gym and a large sports field . After 1990 the school yard was greened. In addition, an elevator was installed during renovation work in 2010/13, which now also enables disabled children to attend school. The Sandow eV library is also located in the school building. It was also awarded the title “ Environmental School ”.

Building description

The building was built in 1967 using prefabricated panels. In 2010, renovation work was undertaken in which the fire protection technology was renewed, the technical building equipment was expanded and the facade was given energy- efficient thermal insulation and upgraded in color. Stairs and canopies were renovated. The basement with the arrangement of the Sandow district library and the special educational counseling center was renewed and expanded.
