Christoph Degen (born March 12, 1980 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German politician ( SPD ), member of the Hessian state parliament and president of the Hessian Music Association. Since June 2011 Degen has been an honorary district member of the Main-Kinzig district.

education and profession

Degen studied after high school at the Einhardschule in Seligenstadt and the civil service in the course for teaching at special schools at the University of Frankfurt . After the first state examination in 2005 he worked as a seminar assistant (internship) in the office of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Gaborone ( Botswana ). He has lived in Neuberg in the Main-Kinzig district since 1998 . From 2006 to 2007 and from 2009 to 2010, Christoph Degen did research as a doctoral student at the Faculty of Education at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main on the political implementation of educational reforms using the example of inclusion in the state of Hesse. Instead of continuing his doctoral studies, Christoph Degen completed the pedagogical preparatory service (legal clerkship) from August 2010 to July 2012 at a school with a focus on intellectual development (special school) in Hesse. Since successfully completing the second state examination, he has had the professional title of "teacher with teaching post for special needs schools" and until his re-election to the Hessian state parliament worked at a school with a special focus on intellectual development.

politics

Degen has been a member of the SPD since 1999 and has been deputy since 2007 and chairman of the SPD sub-district Main-Kinzig since 2014. In addition, from 2011 to 2019 he was chairman of the SPD Working Group for Education (AfB) in the Hesse-South district. From 2002 to 2011 Degen was the community representative of the Neuberg community (deputy chairman of the committee for social affairs, culture and sport). In the local elections on March 27, 2011, Christoph Degen was elected to the district council of the Main-Kinzig district. On June 17, 2011, he was elected by the district council of the Main-Kinzig district as an honorary district member.

From 2006 to 2008 Degen was chairman of the Jusos in the SPD district of South Hesse and deputy state chairman of the Hessian SPD youngsters. He was previously a member of the Juso district board in southern Hesse from 2004 to 2006 as a cashier and from 2010 to 2011 again as an assessor for a year.

In the state elections in Hesse in 2008 on January 27, 2008 Degen was elected to the Hessian state parliament via the state list of the SPD and was a member of the state parliament's cultural policy committee and the petitions committee. The heavy losses of the SPD in the early state elections in Hesse in 2009 meant that he lost his mandate again after just one year. Degen was the youngest member of the association of former members of the Hessian state parliament until his re-election.

In the state elections in Hesse in 2013 he joined the constituency Main-Kinzig I to. Here he lost to Hugo Klein from the CDU. However, he succeeded in re-entering the state parliament via a list of the party. In the Hessian state parliament he is now the education policy spokesman for the SPD. He is a member of the Cultural Policy Committee and the Committee for Science and Art.

In April 2015 Christoph Degen was elected President of the Hessian Music Association (HMV).

Since 2017 he has been an assessor in the state board, since November 2, 2019 General Secretary of the SPD Hessen.
