Reformed Christians in Courland

The place of origin of the Evangelical Reformed churches in the Duchy of Courland and Semgallia was Mitau. The Brandenburg wives of Dukes Jakob Kettler (1610–1682) and Friedrich Kasimir Kettler (1650–1698) had brought the Reformed into the country. These included many court officials and befriended noble families, including the Puttkamer family. Christoph Heinrich von Puttkamer was the first Reformed man in the duchy to be entrusted with high offices.
