Casimir Christoph von Brackel (* 1686 ; † January 8, 1742 in Berlin ) was the Landhofmeister and Chancellor of the Duchy of Courland and Semgallia .

Life

At the age of 16, Brackel was still studying in Königsberg , but was already enrolled as a law student in Halle in 1703 .

In 1714 and from 1717 to 1718 Brackel was a captain in Schrunden . As early as 1716 he was the chief collector for Semgallia and in 1717 land messenger marshal. From 1718 to 1727 Brackel was head captain in Mitau . In 1727 he held the office of Courland Land Marshal, but in the same year he was also Chancellor and Councilor of Courland, then remained in this position until 1729, and from 1729 to 1731 he held the office of Courland Court Master.

As a state delegate in Warsaw in 1724 and 1726, he supported the election of Prince Moritz of Saxony as Duke of Courland . His son, Friedrich von Brackel (* 1715, † 1779), later served as his adjutant . In 1731 Brackel entered Russian service and became a real privy councilor . Until 1735 he was an authorized minister in Denmark and was able to a. achieve recognition of the Russian imperial title. Afterwards Brackel was the Russian envoy to the Prussian court in Berlin until 1741 . In between he was sent to Vienna on a special mission in 1739 . In 1741 he was dismissed from service due to illness.

Casimir Christoph von Brackel was a knight of the Alexander Nevsky Order and the Order of St. Andrew . He was hereditary lord of Kuckschen and Klein Dsirren in the parish of Kandau as well as of Apricken and Seemuppen in the parish of Sackenhausen . From 1720 he also owned Daudsewas (until 1727) and Salwen in the Nerft parish and Berghof in the Friedrichstadt parish .

family

He was a member of the Baltic noble family Brackel . His parents were the Chancellor of Courland, Oberrat and Landhofmeister Friedrich von Brackel (* 1634, † 1708) and his second wife Gertrud von Korff .

He was married to Eva Elisabeth von Plettenberg († sp. 1721) since 1711 . The marriage was divorced in 1720. The only son, Friedrich von Brackel, went into French service and eventually acquired the Chamblon rule in Switzerland. With his grandson Heinrich Rudolph von Brackel , the Kurland line of the family died out.
