Christoph Schellberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christoph Schellberg (* 1973 in Düsseldorf ) is a German painter .

Live and act

Schellberg is less interested in a specific motif than in painting itself. As if he wanted to sound out the spectrum of the medium, he presents classic genres such as portrait , landscape and still life as well as abstract works.

“When backgrounds, shadows and blurring are composed of innumerable, finely glazed layers of paint, when backgrounds become visible at the edge and the shadow of a rod is created from a specifically coordinated color spectrum, one feels reminiscent of the opulence of an Ad Reinhardt or a Brice Marden without that Schellberg imitated or even quoted one of the two. (...) So this is not about any great role model, but rather how the means available to the painter are used. It is the means that Schellberg adapts for his own painting, in each case in completely independent compositions, colors and materials. "

Christoph Schellberg studied at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg from 1995 to 1997 and at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1997 to 2001 . From 2004 to 2006 Schellberg had a teaching position at the Düsseldorf Art Academy.
