Christoph Sowada

Christoph Winfried Sowada (born June 17, 1956 in Berlin ) is a German lawyer and professor at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald .

Life

Sowada began studying law in 1975 at the Free University of Berlin , which he graduated there in 1981 with the first state examination in law. He then worked as a research assistant at Klaus Geppert's chair for criminal law and criminal procedural lawin Berlin. After completing his legal clerkship in 1984, he also passed his second state examination in Berlin. In 1988, Sowada left Geppert to work as a lawyer. He did this for three years, but quit in 1991 to complete his doctorate. After earning his doctorate in 1991, he worked as a research assistant at the Free University of Berlin until 1997. After that he devoted himself fully to his habilitation, for which he had received a research grant from the German Research Foundation . In 2000 he successfully completed his habilitation and received the venia legendi for the subjects of criminal law, criminal procedure law and criminal law history.

As a result, he initially held a chair at the University of Bochum . From 2001 he held the chair for criminal law and criminal procedure law at the University of Rostock . However, since 2009 he has been seconded to the University of Greifswald , where he has been teaching and researching ever since.

Sowada's main research areas are substantive criminal law, court constitution and criminal procedural law as well as medical criminal law.
