Christoph Student

Johann-Christoph Student (* 1942 in Gnesen ) is a German psychiatrist , palliative medicine specialist and psychotherapist . He is one of the pioneers of the German hospice movement and palliative medicine and developed theoretical and practical foundations for hospice work in Germany.

In 1978 he became a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy.

Student taught social medicine , psychiatry and thanatology at the Protestant universities of applied sciences in Hanover and Freiburg im Breisgau from 1980 to 1997 . From 1997 until his retirement in 2006 he was the overall director of the Stuttgart Hospice , which he developed into one of the most renowned German hospice and palliative facilities during this time. Since 2006 he has headed the German Institute for Palliative Care on a voluntary basis . He is considered one of the most prominent German students of the death researcher Elisabeth Kübler-Ross .

2006 gave him the University of Heidelberg , the honorary doctorate of palliative care in Germany for its formative value in founding the hospice movement and the realignment since the early 1980s.
