Christophe Tiozzo (born June 1, 1963 in Saint-Denis ) is a former French boxer . Tiozzo was bronze medalist of the 1984 Olympic Games in the light middleweight (-71 kg) and world champion of the WBA in the super middleweight (-76.2 kg). He is the brother of the two boxers Fabrice Tiozzo and Franck Tiozzo.

Career

amateur

Tiozzo was French champion in 1982, 1983 and 1985.

1983 Tiozzo started in the light middleweight (-71 kg) at the European Championships , but retired in the first fight against the later silver medalist Ralf Hunger, GDR (3: 2). In the following year he took part in the Olympic Games and after victories over Sullemana Sadik, Ghana (5: 0), in the round of 16 over Vincent Byarugaba, Uganda (5: 0), and in the quarter-finals over Israel Cole, Sierra Leone (5: 0) 0), and a semi-final defeat to Shawn O'Sullivan to win the bronze medal.

At the European Championships in 1985 Tiozzo appeared again and was able to win his first two fights. In the subsequent doping test, he was tested positive and disqualified. As a result, it became known that he was a patient of the well-known French doping doctor François Bellocq.

professional

In 1985 Tiozzo made his professional debut and remained undefeated in the following 24 fights. In 1990 he won the WBA world title in super middleweight (-76.2 kg) with a TKO victory in the sixth round over In-Chul Baek, South Korea . After two title defenses against Paul Whittaker and the until then unbeaten Dan Morgan, both USA , he lost the title after about a year against Víctor Córdoba, Panama by technical knockout in the ninth round.

Then Tiozzo rose to the light heavyweight (-79.3 kg) and got after two more victories in 1992 a chance for a world title, but Jeff Harding , Australia , had to admit defeat by technical knockout in the eighth round.

Then Tiozzo ended his career for the time being, but returned to the ring in 1995 and competed victoriously in three more fights.
