Christopher Brookmyre (born September 6, 1968 in Glasgow , Scotland ) is a Scottish novelist .

Life

After studying English literature and theater studies at the University of Glasgow in 1989, he worked as a journalist in London , Los Angeles and Edinburgh . After three unsuccessful attempts, his first novel was published in 1996 under the title Quite Ugly One Morning . This is where the protagonist Jack Parlabane , the main character in five of his books, appears for the first time. Parlabane is an investigative journalist who, in his research, interprets the limits of what is allowed very broadly.

All Brookmyre books are thrillers that are spiced with a lot of satire and black humor. They are less in the tradition of British crime writers, but are more based on American models such as Carl Hiaasen . The plot often serves as a hook for criticism of politics and society in Britain .

Christopher Brookmyre is married to an anesthetist and is a fan of the Scottish football club St. Mirren .
