Christopher P. McKay (born before 1982) is a planetary scientist at NASA Ames Research Center . He studies the atmospheres of planets , astrobiology and terraforming .

Life

McKay received his PhD in astrogeophysics from the University of Colorado in 1982 and his bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University .

McKay conducted extensive research into planetary atmospheres, especially Saturn's moons Titan and Mars , and into the origin and development of life . He was involved in the design of Cassini-Huygens , the Mars Phoenix lander and the Mars Science Laboratory . In addition, he did research in the area of extremophiles in places such as Death Valley , the Atacama Desert , Axel Heiberg Island and the ice-covered lakes of Antarctica .

In addition to his professional work, Christopher McKay is a director of the Planetary Society and also works for the Mars Society and as a consultant to Mars One . He has given extensive lectures and written about space exploration and terraforming .
