Christopher Wheeldon

Christopher Wheeldon (born March 22, 1973 in Yeovil , Somerset , England ) is an English ballet dancer and choreographer .

Wheeldon joined the Corps de ballet of the Royal Ballet in 1991 , where he spent two years. On a trip to New York City he was convinced to try his hand at the New York City Ballet (NYCB) and was offered a position there. He joined the Corps NYCB in 1993 and was soon promoted to soloist.

Soon Wheeldon received invitations from other ballet companies such as the San Francisco Ballet , the Colorado Ballet, and the Boston Ballet . In late 1999 he was named the Boston Ballet's first guest choreographer.

In 2007 Wheeldon founded a dance company called "Morphoses" / The Wheeldon Company in collaboration with former New York City Ballet solo dancer Lourdes Lopez. When Wheeldon left the organization in 2010, he put Lopez in charge of the force.

In 2012, Wheeldon was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

Wheeldon has been partnered with yoga instructor Ross Rayburn since 2013.
