In April 1952, Christophorus was published as the second German-language Catholic church newspaper in the GDR, after the Lord's Day had been published since May 1951 and the Sorbian-language Katolski Posoł since December 1950 . It was a monthly for Catholic youth. The editor-in-chief was also Josef Gülden . Wilhelm Erben worked as an editor together with Elisabeth Antkowiak and Joachim Manns. It was published in an edition of 25,000 copies, a volume of twelve pages and in the format 24 by 16.5 centimeters. The newspaper was only available by subscription. There was no public sale of church newspapers in the GDR. It was enthusiastically received by the Catholic youth, so that the political authorities became suspicious. In January 1953, the youth magazine had to stop its publication.
