Christ Church (Aalen)
The Christ Church is a Protestant church in today's Aalen district of Unterrombach . It is one of the two churches of the Aalen-Unterrombach evangelical parish belonging to the Aalen parish , which has around 3,200 members and was built from 1911 to 1912.
history
Since 1841 there was a Protestant community in the - until 1938 independent - community of Unterrombach, which was supplied from Aalen. However, since the early community did not own a church, the service was held every four weeks in what was then the schoolhouse; on the other Sundays the faithful took part in the service in the town church in Aalen. The construction of our own church in Unterrombach was initiated primarily by the then Dean Rohrer and the Unterrombach mayor Leibbrand, after donations had been collected for the construction for over 20 years. With the planning and construction management of the church, the architects Richard Böklen and Carl Feil were outStuttgart commissioned. The certificate for the laying of the foundation stone in 1911 states, among other things:
- “The lack of a [...] house of God has long been felt painfully in our church, which now has 900 souls. In the course of 20 years it has now been possible to raise the funds to build a church. Nice contributions came from the […] congregation and the mother congregation in Aalen. The upper church authority and the Gustav Adolf Association have donated considerable sums, and the high state government has approved a church building lottery. "
The construction project, which cost around 62,000 marks, was completed in less than a year , so that the church could be consecrated on July 7, 1912.
For the 50th anniversary in 1962 the church was renovated inside and out and rededicated on July 15, 1962 by the prelate Höltzel, who was born in Aalen. But just seventeen years later, renewed renovation was necessary both inside and out. In this, the architect Manfred Kolb redesigned the choir room in particular ; three choir windows, which had been bricked up since the last renovation, were reopened and redesigned with concrete glazing by a parishioner. On March 9, 1980, the church was consecrated again in its current state by the regional bishop Hans von Keler .
For the 75th anniversary in 1987, the church was named Christ Church . During a renewed renovation on the occasion of the 100th anniversary, the choir room was redesigned in 2012.
Trivia
- Since the Reformation, Aalen's second pastor was also pastor in Unterrombach. From 1920 the 3rd parish priest was responsible for Unterrombach.
- When it was built in 1911, the original plan was to build the gallery on the south side up to the front of the choir. However, the community's financial means were not sufficient for this, which is why the gallery is still only on the east side of the church, with a view of the chancel. This is also the reason why the altar is not placed in the middle of the entire width, as is usually the case, but rather offset slightly to the north.
- The choir windows created in 1979/1980 symbolize the trinity of God with the cross, flanked by the dove of peace and blessing hands .
- The Protestant parish of Aalen-Unterrombach also maintains another church, the Martin Luther Hall in Aalen-Hofherrnweiler, which was added to the church kindergarten.
- The parish hall of the Unterrombach parish, which was named after the theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer , was opened on February 25, 1972. Together with the rectory built on the same property and the rectory, it forms the community center.
