The Ramal Sul do Espírito Santo is a historic railway line in Brazil , which connected the then province of Espírito Santo with Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais .

history

The Ramal Sul do Espírito Santo railway originated from the EF Sul do Espírito Santo railway company, which also owned a line in the Vitória region. The company was state owned and belonged to the provincial government of Espírito Santo . In 1908 the Estrada de Ferro Leopoldina took over this line as well as the Linha de Caravelas from Vitória to Castelo and to Rive on the other side, ending in the train station of Matosinhos (Coutinho). These sections of the route were completed in 1887. The siding to Castelo - Ramal do Castelo - was initially part of the Linha de Caravelas and was only later taken over by the Leopoldina and shut down by the RFFSA in 1963. In order to arrive in Minas Gerais and meet the Linha de Manhuaçu , the Rive-Alegre section was built for another 5 years until 1912 and until Espera Feliz, the end of the line, until 1913. The section was completed at the end of the 1960s Cachoeiro-Guaçuí closed to passenger traffic and then completely shut down on October 26, 1972 by the Ferroviária Federal RFFSA speech . The other section Espera Feliz-Guaçuí was still active in passenger traffic until 1971, but has since been shut down as well.
