Christ Church

The Christ Church is a Protestant church building in the Sundwig district of the city of Hemer . Following the closure of the St. Thomas Church is the only church in the parish Hemer-South. The church was consecrated in 1963 and has since shaped the cityscape with its tall white church tower.

history

In the 1950s, a Canadian settlement was built between the districts of Sundwig and Westig , which prevented a common church building for both localities. After the Sundwiger parish found a building site, work on the Christ Church began in 1962. The laying of the foundation stone on September 28, 1962 was followed by the inauguration on May 10, 1964. The reopening took place on March 29, 1981 after four months of closure due to roof damage.

Bells

The bells were consecrated at the same time as the church building. The bells were transported to the church in September 1963 while the Catholic parish church of St. Boniface was ringing .
